Client testimonials about Zen Recovery's alternative addiction rehab program in California.

This place literally changed my life! Before I found Zen Recovery Path, I was at an extremely low point in my life. I was suffering from severe anxiety and depression and felt like I was living in a perpetual state of panic. Sifu Mathew and his entire staff were so welcoming, caring and nurturing that even though I was brought there kicking and screaming (lol). I knew I was finally in a safe place.

Through individual and group therapy, daily meditation, tai chi, yoga, reiki, martial arts, and art therapy, Zen Recovery Path provided me with all of the tools I needed to become centered, grounded, and truly in-tune with myself, giving me the capacity for happiness that I had seemed to have lost.

I could not recommend this place more!

I don't even know where to begin to express the true gratitude I have for Zen Recovery Path. First off a little backstory: I found this place while I was living in Chicago, and in a very dark place in my life. My mother had been diagnosed with stage-four stomach cancer and I was drinking heavily. When I moved back to California, I knew I had to do something about the way I drank, so I finally agreed to come to Zen Recovery Path. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.

When I initially met Sifu Mathew, his warmth and compassion for what he does radiated through him, and I knew I was in the right place. His staff is equally amazing; Ryan, Erin, Alyssa and Jessica will always hold a place in my heart.

A month into coming to Zen Recovery Path, my mother passed away, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Matt sat me down, said he wanted to talk, made a few jokes in typical Matt style, and eventually told me the horrible news. I remember that I cried, but I also knew in my heart that I was going to be ok, and I remained calm. Zen Recovery was there for me during a pivotal point in my life, and for that I am eternally thankful. The daily things we did, whether it be tai chi, morning meditation, arts and crafts, a massage!, reiki therapy, or even regular one-on-one therapy, kept me centered, and gained love for myself that I hadn't had in a while. I looked forward to going everyday.

Since leaving Zen Recovery Path, I try to practice the things I've learned in everyday life, and especially in my daily meditation. If I'm ever in town I always make it a point to stop by and say hi to some pretty important people to me, especially Kane (the best dog ever).

This place will change your life for the better!

There is no place out there that I have ever been that is like Zen Recovery Path. Just the environment itself is healing and positive. The staff is so supportive and loving, they have forever changed my life. I am so thankful for Sifu Mathew and his staff for being there for me and teaching me how to live life again with a positive outlook and for giving me tools to deal with life on life's terms. If you are looking for a positive change in your life Zen Recovery Path is a great place to get a solid foundation.

Amazing place, amazing program, and top-notch people! A truly once-in-a-lifetime blessing that I was able to attend this facility and program. They helped me to reconnect with myself and who I am and have since had no prescribed medication for anxiety or depression for 3 years now! Prior to this program I was in and out of the hospital for 6-7 years for major depression and anxiety. This program and place was a life changing experience for me as well as my loved ones! If I could move my family to CA, I would visit this place often! Unforgettable! Thank you Sifu Mathew and all staff at Zen Recovery Path.

This place is like no other treatment center I've been to. All the staff are super friendly and chill. Unlike AA and the 12-step program, this place helps you be a tune with your true self, the inner-self, once again like we once were. They allow you to express your creativity by channeling your energy to art, music, yoga, and martial arts. They have many more classes but those are the ones that I chose personally. You can't cure addiction with a program that has predetermined steps to take. Everyone deals with problems in their own way. So to battle addiction everyone needs to do it in his or her own way also in order for it to be effective. I think its just common sense or at least it makes more sense. Our addiction stems from an imbalance in our lives, like too much of or a lack of something. Zen Recovery Path helped me get on the path to rediscover my true self and to live a more balanced life, which in turn helped with my urges to use drugs. All I can say is give them a try and you won't regret that you did. Thanks to all the staff at Zen Recovery Path!!!

This is an amazing place. This is unconventional, and empowering, this place. There are fountains, hammocks, meditation spots, bamboo wind chimes blowing in the breeze and art made from various recycled items all over the place. There is a lovely outdoor lounge that catches a sweet breeze and a huge, gorgeous former barn that "feels" just excellent when inside...what's not to love?

There is counseling - both group and one-on-one and a lot of laughter. Martial arts, yoga and Reiki are some of the things that fill in the less conventional approach. VERY holistic. It's a place where one can take a nice, deep breath, and feel safe and supported getting healthy again.

Oh, and music! Bring your guitar, your flute, your sitar, your chimes...you'll fit right in.

If conventional recovery hasn't felt quite right for you, this may well be your place. If you need help and support to find your best self - this place is worth a call, a tour. Every person I met there was all about the individual and creating wholeness.

Namaste!

Never in my life have I met people like those at Zen Recovery Path. The staff is genuine, caring, and knowledgeable, and have become permanent friends and mentors. I have been an alcoholic for almost 20 years, and my road to recovery, in earnest, began here. ZRP's holistic program, whether on its own, or as augmentation to a 12-step program, offers the tools necessary to not only recover from addiction, but to live an enhanced life. I recommend this program without reservation to anyone suffering from addiction.

The absolute best place for help, by far. I went there 2 years ago and I am clean now and proudly working at Starbucks. Sifu Matt and the Zen Recovery Path squad are so kind and inviting, I always felt comfortable.
The place itself is calming and warm, just like the crew. Good job Zen Recovery Path, you've done wonders.
XOXO

I had the pleasure of working with Sifu Mathew's program and have been now sober for coming up on 6 years. The gentle, kind, and loving approach he takes made all of the difference for me. I had been in and out of treatment centers before coming to Zen Recovery Path for 4 years. He believed in me when nobody else did and gave me a sense of empowerment and self-love that I hadn't found anywhere else. This time it actually stuck! Thank you!!

Words cannot express how grateful I am for the amazing staff at Zen Recovery Path. I was a shell of a person when I arrived, stuck in a deep depression, terrible anxiety, an attempted suicide, and using alcohol in an poor attempt to cope. I was drowning quickly. Zen Recovery Path saved my life. I was given the tools needed to triumph over my traumas, find peace within, and live the kind of life I'd only dreamed about. What I love most about this amazing place is their Buddhist philosophy, including yoga, Tai Chi, meditation, combined with art therapy, music therapy, lectures, etc. These tools enabled me to find my long-lost spirituality as well as inner strength, peace, coping skills, and self care. I wouldn't be here with the amazing staff and programs offered at Zen Recovery Path.

Best IOP program I've ever been fortunate enough to come into contact with; truly head and shoulders above the rest. The staff at Zen Recovery Path genuinely cares about each client’s success and well-being. The structure of the program is such that clients are in control of their progress and success. The format of the education is not prescriptive but instead is completely individualized. And the partnership amongst clients and staff is unparalleled in this industry. Legitimately a place where one can learn, grow and recover. I spent 3 amazing months there and have absolutely nothing but good things to say. This place changed and saved my life. CHECK IT OUT!!!

Zen Recovery is a unique program whose Director and therapists are truly committed to helping participants reclaim the best of themselves and move forward in their lives. Our daughter has been in the Zen Recovery Program for four months. Psychological and addiction therapies have helped our daughter to understand how she fell into addiction and to develop strategies for staying sober. The martial arts and Eastern philosophy components have provided exercise for her body and mind, helping her to develop calmness and focus. Most importantly, Zen Recovery as a whole has assisted our daughter in recognizing the strengths and abilities that she has to move forward with a fulfilling sober life. The staff at Zen Recovery, from therapists to martial arts instructors, has demonstrated genuine interest and care for our daughter as she has begun to rebuild her life.

One of the most distressing things about being a parent trying to help an addicted son or daughter is that so many of the recovery programs you see advertised on the internet turn out to be dishonest and cynical operations for sucking in your money, while doing almost nothing for your kid. This is why you should do extensive background checks on addiction recovery programs before making a commitment. Imagine our relief when we found a recovery program staffed by caring and genuine people, more concerned with doing well than with making money, and, with help from our insurance, something we could actually afford. You only have to visit their location to see and feel the Zen spirit pervading the grounds and buildings. After two years of failed therapy in our home state, our daughter finally overcame her addiction at Zen Recovery. And while now a 'graduate' of this program, our daughter still visits Zen Recovery to keep up her kung fu, and she tells us that she is always welcome.

My name is Jasmine and I have known Matt Carver for a few years now. Throughout the time I have known him he has always been a very positive and helpful person in my life. Zen Recovery Path has truly changed my life for the better in many different ways. The approach that they take unlike most treatment centers is focusing more on the well being of not only improving your thoughts and ways to cope with stress and addiction, but Zen Recovery Path also helped me get back in touch with the spiritual side of me that I lost touch of when I was in my addiction, and helped me gain back that inner self that I was missing. Zen Recovery Path has not only changed my life personally but I have also seen it work for other people. It is a different way to approach treating things like addiction, depression and anxiety by healing those things but not only on a worldly level but on a spiritual level and it actually works! Thank God for Zen Recovery Path and people like Matt who are genuinely helping people get better and helping people to start to learn to rebuild themselves to be the people that they are called to be!

I wanted to thank you and the Zen team for guiding me through the wonderful, life-changing experience I had during the past 5 weeks at Zen Recovery Path.

Through eastern teachings, Zen has provided me a philosophy to live by of "enjoying life in the moment". Learning Tai Chi, Yoga, and Vipassana Meditation techniques provided me tools to manage a sometimes stressful life and grow spiritually. I'm excited for what the future holds.

The staff at Zen proved to be professional, caring, insightful and a lot of fun to be around. I learned something from all of them that will help me in my new life.

I'm hoping to visit Zen again next winter (as I write it's snowing outside in Chicago) and maintain contact as much as possible.

I would have never had the opportunity to change my life if it weren't for you and your genuine heart and soul, I am very grateful! Just remember that you have and still are creating a wonderful program with some of the most key people to provide an opportunity of a lifetime!
What the people that are given the great opportunity to be in the program choose do participate in and continue on with it for the rest of their lives is up to them to create what you have given them the opportunity to be set free! Sorry so lengthy but I just want you to know how much I believe in you and the people you have chosen to give the best tools available to us!
Words cannot thank you enough!

Whenever I first arrived at Zen Recovery I had little aspiration to be sober or even be in a rehabilitation facility. I was placed in a program for legal reasons and just wanted to skate through it. However during my stay at Zen my attitude and thoughts completely changed. When my treatment began I was apprehensive to say the least and expected my experience would be the same as every other treatment facility that I had ever gone to. Zen was something completely different from my expectations. I was able to begin at my own pace and learn and grow how I wanted to.

The staff at Zen Recovery did not try to force information down my throat or try to make me think differently than I normally would. They instead used my weaknesses to their advantage. Typically I am very resistant to change and rarely listen or take direction from anyone. As treatment went on, the processes they offered up began to open up to me. Mathew was helpful and understanding at every level making a transition into treatment much easier.

Mathew however was not the only one who was helpful, everyone at Zen made an impact on my life in some way or another. Keith helped me change my perspective on life and show me that I did not need drugs to be happy or "get through life". He made me believe that there was more to life than just being high and that I need to be sober to capitalize on all the opportunities that are available to me.

My stay at Zen was great and certainly life changing. There are no simple cures to addiction, it is much more complex than that, but through meditation and mindful awareness we can change anything about ourselves we don't like. Thank you for your help and everything you taught me during my stay at Zen Recovery you have provided me with invaluable tools for my recovery process.
